The most recent trend in Russian theater is experiencing it on your phone. You download an app, buy a ticket for a particular performance, put your headphones on and press play. The performance leads you through the city. Mikhail Zygar, the author of the bestselling book on Putin’s presidency “All the Kremlin’s Men” and former editor-in-chief of the only Russian independent news channel, Dozhd, launched “Mobilny Khudozhestvenny Teatr” (Mobile Art Theater) in the summer of 2019. One of his productions, “1,000 Steps with Kirill Serebrennikov,” which deals with the house arrest of one of Russia’s most prominent theater directors, has already been nominated for the “Golden Mask” award.
