Twelve intercontinental-ballistic-missile test launches will be conducted by the end of the year, Russia's Strategic Missile Forces announced Monday.

The test launches will be geared toward the development of advanced missile technology, Interfax reported, citing

Colonel Igor Yegorov, a spokesperson for the Strategic Missile Forces. Yegorov added that training would be intensified during the summer and that surprise inspections would be conducted to ensure troops' combat readiness.

"Amid the increase in combat training during the summer, our troops will carry out more than 40 staff trainings and around 20 command post rehearsals, 10 command staff exercises, 50 tactical and special tactical training exercises," Yegorov said, Interfax reported.
