Opposition Journalist Alexander Ryklin Detained in Moscow

Alexander Ryklin, a journalist and activist from the Solidarnost (Solidarity) democratic opposition movement, said he had been detained by police, the Interfax news agency reported Monday.

“I was driving along Profsoyuznaya Ulitsa to the center when I was stopped by traffic police, who said my car was wanted,” Ryklin was quoted by Interfax as saying.

Ryklin said that he was being taken by two police officers to the Meshchansky district police department.

Colleagues of the journalist link Ryklin's detention with his participation in an opposition rally at Novopushkinsky Skver on Constitution Day on Dec. 12, the Novaya Gazeta newspaper reported.

The protest demonstration was banned by the authorities.

Ryklin was among more than thirty protesters detained during the rally, but was released the same day.

?€?I think there was some mistake on Dec.12. Apparently, they decided that they released me by mistake and then detained again,?€? Ryklin was quoted by Interfax.

… we have a small favor to ask. As you may have heard, The Moscow Times, an independent news source for over 30 years, has been unjustly branded as a "foreign agent" by the Russian government. We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. Our commitment to providing accurate and unbiased reporting on Russia remains unshaken. But we need your help to continue our critical mission.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and you can be confident that you're making a significant impact every month by supporting open, independent journalism. Thank you.
