Albright to Visit Russia

UNITED NATIONS () -- United States UN representative Madeleine Albright leaves Thursday on a two-week trip to Central Europe, the Caucasus and Russia for talks on bilateral and UN issues, her office said.


In Moldova, one topic will be a recent agreement between that country and Russia for the withdrawal of Russian troops over the next three years.


In Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia she will discuss the need for international mediation and possible peacekeeping activities in those countries.


In Moscow she will discuss the situation in Moldova and the Caucasus as well as Security Council matters.


She will also fly to the breakaway Abkhazia region of Georgia to meet UN observers and officials of the Russian peacekeeping mission.
