A mountain peak in North Ossetia is to be named after recently passed leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro. According to the press office of the republic's Emergencies Ministry, the initiative was proposed by Mountaineering Federation of North Ossetia.

The statement noted that the specific peak to be named was still to be determined and a memorial plaque would be installed there once weather conditions permitted.
The Emergency Ministry press office told the Interfax news agency that they were pleased with the proposal, not only because it renders honor to Castro but because they believe it will bring more tourists to North Ossetia.
"Routes, located in the mountains of North Ossetia, have long been very popular among tourists and climbers," said the press agency of the Emergency Ministry's Search and Rescue team.
"We are sure that they will want to climb to the top of a peak named after Fidel Castro."
Cuban leader Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz died on Nov. 25 at the age of 90.
