Russia is to stop buying foreign-made civillian planes, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced Tuesday.
Rogozin said that the move would protect the domestic market, the Interfax news agency reported.
"We will no longer support policies which see the purchase of foreign planes when similar aircraft can be produced in Russia,” Rogozin said during a meeting at the offices of Russia's MiG aircraft manufacturers.
"We are a great power in the world of aviation, and it's just shameful that we buy foreign aircraft,” he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin insisted last week at India's BRICS summit that boycotts against Western food imports were "measures to protect to economy" rather than a sign of increasing international tensions.
"[Sanctions] have given
a chance to domestic producers with the support of the state,” he said.
