Man Sets Himself on Fire in Red Square

A resident of the Russian town of Tver attempted self-immolation near the Red Square, the Interfax news agency reported Thursday, citing an unidentified source in law enforcement.

A man poured petrol over his body and set himself on fire on Wednesday morning near the entrance to the skating rink in Red Square, the source told the news agency, adding that the man didn't announce any motives for his action.

Police officers put out the flames and called the ambulance. The man was hospitalized with burns on 9 percent of his body, according to the source.

The man had a document with him stating he had undergone psychiatric examination during a criminal case on assault charges.
