"An Honest Mirror of Youth,” remained popular in Russia throughout the 18th century.

297 years ago today, on Feb. 4, 1717, the book "An Honest Mirror of Youth," was first published in Russia by decree of Peter I. The book instructed young boys to show obedience to their elders, while conciliation, quietness and diligence were expected from young girls. The text remained very popular throughout the 18th century.
