Street Racer Rams Crowd

A spectator at an illegal nighttime race in southern Moscow was killed and five others were injured after one of the drivers plowed into the crowd with his Nissan sedan early Sunday, RIA-Novosti reported.

The driver fled the scene after crashing into the crowd, sending victims flying 30 meters and splitting a tree, the tabloid Lifenews.ru said, adding that the man removed the license plates from his car before escaping.

The driver, identified by Lifenews.ru as Sergei Ivanov, 27, head of a Moscow car dealer, was detained two hours after the incident and faces up to seven years in prison if charged and convicted of vehicular manslaughter.
