A Tajik woman whose 5-month-old son died while she was being kept in police custody has been deported, the Interfax news agency reported Monday, citing her lawyer.
Zarina Yunusova was flown to Dushanbe from St. Petersburg on Sunday night together with the corpse of her son, Olga Tseitlin told Interfax.
The 5-month-old Umarali Nazarov was separated from his parents when they were detained in St. Petersburg for violating migration rules last month.
The boy was returned to his parents, dead, a day later. A medical examination showed the boy had reportedly died of respiratory problems caused by an acute infection.
A St. Petersburg court last week ruled the incident was not sufficient reason to delay the boy's mother's deportation, the report said.
A criminal investigation on charges of death by negligence has been opened into the incident. The boy's parents are also under investigation on charges of failing in their parental duties.
