Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his government continues to oppose a United Nations resolution on Syria.
Lavrov made the statement following talks Friday with his French counterpart, Alain Juppe, who called for a UN resolution urging the Syrian government to end violent crackdowns on protesters and conduct real reforms. France, Britain and Germany have drafted a UN Security Council resolution, but Russia and China have opposed it.
Lavrov also urged the Syrian opposition to stop ignoring the government's calls for talks and engage in dialogue with authorities. He warned against attempts to topple President Bashar Assad's regime, saying it would lead to dangerous consequences.
