Four Somalis had tried to break through security wire at the camp in Balad, north of the capital, and ignored warning shots, the spokesman said. One died, one was wounded, the others fled.
The incident followed two firefights between U.S. soldiers and Italians against Somalis on Tuesday. Many fear Somalia is sliding back into chaos as Western contingents pull out of the country which has no government but more than a dozen armed militias.
