Russia’s grain harvest will fall by at least a fifth compared with last year, the country’s Grain Producers’ Union said Thursday.
Farmers will gather about 77 million metric tons of grain this year, said the group’s president, Pavel Skurikhin, according to his spokesman Alexei Smorodov. They reaped a 97 million-ton crop last year.
The drought that prompted the government to declare emergencies in 17 regions will not lead to a grain shortage in the country or price increases for bread, Skurikhin said.
