Russia's Yandex Launches News Service Written by Algorithms

Yandex, Russia's answer to Google, plans to launch a news service that will provide information written by computer algorithms, the TASS news agency reported Monday.

By writing using algorithms based on monitoring and data analysis, the Internet company hopes to offer breaking stories to media outlets in real time, TASS cited a company statement as saying.

At its initial launch in November, the service will provide information on traffic, weather and major news events. But in the future, the list of topics will be expanded.

Maria Petrova, head of the company's “Yandex for media” project, told the Vedomosti newspaper on Monday that the company already provided an automated news service to several media providers, including the Interfax news agency. The news service will be available to all media free of charge.
