A 38-year-old man was killed after an explosion at a bus stop Thursday morning in the city of Angarsk in the Irkutsk region, Rossia-24 TV channel reported.
The man, who eyewitnesses say was approaching a bag at the bus stop when it exploded, died after a three-hour operation to amputate his right leg, the channel reported authorities as saying.
"A female witness says that the plastic bag was lying at the bus stop and when the man approached it, there was an explosion," Karina Golovacheva, a representative of the regional branch of the Investigative Committee, was quoted by Interfax as saying.
Golovacheva said the committee had opened a criminal investigation into the explosion, in which one woman also sustained minor injuries, and sent samples collected at the site for examination, Interfax reported.
Irkutsk region Governor Sergei Yeroshchenko said there were no grounds to suspect a terrorist attack, the agency reported.
