Winner of Eating Contest Dies on Stage While Getting Prize

The winner of an eating contest died on stage while receiving her award on Saturday, Interfax-Ukraine reported Monday, citing a police spokesperson.

The contest, which tested participants to see who could eat the most dumplings in a given amount of time, was held as part of a city festival in the Lvov region Saturday.

The winner, a 53-year-old woman whose name has not been disclosed, became ill on stage while she was receiving her prize, the report said. She died before an ambulance could arrive.

Her body has been sent for an autopsy, and police have opened a criminal case over the incident, the report said.
