The funeral for Mikhail Kalashnikov will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, at the Federal War Memorial Complex in Mytishchi, just north of Moscow, and not in the legendary assault rifle designer's native Izhevsk as suggested earlier.
“According to a decision by Kalashnikov's relatives, the burial service for the distinguished designer will be held Dec. 27, 2013 in Moscow at the Federal War Memorial Complex,” the Udmurtia administration said Tuesday, Interfax reported.
A service for the late weapons designer will also be held in the designer's native city of Izhevsk at the Svyato-Mikhailovsky Cathedral on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 the administration said.
Izhevsk is located roughly 1,000 kilometers east of Moscow Kalashnikov, the designer of the AK-47, the world's most famous assault rifle, died in Izhevsk on Monday at the age of 94.
