U.S. Ambassador to Host Town Hall

U.S. citizens living in Russia will have the opportunity to put their questions directly to U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul at a town hall-style meeting at his Spaso House residence next week, the embassy said Tuesday.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on March 22, and invitations will be sent to all U.S. citizens registered with the embassy's American Citizens Services Unit, the embassy said in a statement.

All U.S. citizens are welcome, and attendees should R.S.V.P. in advance with the embassy consular section and be ready to show their U.S. passport upon entry, it said.

"This is the first time in recent decades that Americans have been invited to Spaso for this type of meeting, and to meet and ask questions of the U.S. ambassador and embassy staff," the statement said. "The town hall format is an American institution, both in the United States and among our citizens overseas, and we're so pleased to bring it to historic Spaso House."

McFaul took up his post on Jan. 10 after working for the previous three years at the White House as President Barack Obama's top adviser on Russia.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
