U.S. investigators in Maryland have identified the remains of a Russian woman missing since February, Itar-Tass reported Thursday.
The remains of Yulia Pogrebenko, 54, a university professor from Irkutsk, were discovered this summer.
Russian authorities provided DNA samples from Pogrebenko's relatives for the investigation, the report said, citing the Interior Ministry.
Pogrebenko disappeared on Feb. 23 after arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and renting a car to visit relatives in Baltimore, the FBI said in an online missing person bulletin.
A photograph of Pogrebenko on the FBI web site showed a middle-aged woman with reddish-brown hair and glasses.
Her rented car was later found on the outskirts of Baltimore along with some of her belongings.
The FBI has opened an investigation. Further details about the case, including the cause of death, have not been released.
