U.S. Backs WTO Bid

The White House said Monday that the United States had resolved its issues with Moscow on Russia’s entry into the World Trade Organization and would work with international partners to move the membership process forward.

“President [Barack] Obama and President [Dmitry] Medvedev made a strong commitment to each other earlier this year to work on a very fast timetable to resolve the outstanding issues between our countries,” Michael Froman, White House deputy national security adviser, told reporters. “On a bilateral basis, our major outstanding issues are now resolved, and that’s a very significant step forward toward Russia’s WTO accession. We will be working with Russia, with the EU and with the other members of the multilateral process to try and move this process forward toward their accession as early as possible.”
