Having just completed a perilous quest, the beefy title character of "Alyosha Popovich and the Tugarin Snake" leads an entourage carrying a pot of gold. Earlier this week, the animated film struck gold itself when it won an award for best feature-length film in the 13th Anima Mundi international animation festival in Rio de Janeiro. The victory conferred international recognition on the film's creators -- director Konstantin Bronzit, the CTB production company and the associated Melnitsa animation studio -- as well as on Russian animation itself.
