Investigators have submitted the KirovLes embezzlement case materials against opposition leader Alexei Navalny to a Kirov district court, a news report said.
The case, in which investigators say Navalny defrauded the Kirov region of 16 million rubles ($520,000) by stealing 10,000 cubic meters of timber in 2009, was submitted to the Leninsky district court on Monday for review, the court's secretary told Interfax on Tuesday.
"The court received Alexei Navalny's case on Monday. It is being reviewed by judge Sergei Vladimirovich Blinov. The date of the first hearing has not yet been set," the secretary said.
Last week, the Investigative Committee submitted to the Prosecutor General's Office documents for the confirmation of indictment in the KirovLes embezzlement case.
Navalny is also suspected of defrauding the local branch of Yves Rocher of 24 million rubles.
Navalny faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of stealing timber and 10 years on separate charges of defrauding Yves Rocher. He has denied all wrongdoing in the cases.
Due to an editing error, an earlier version of this article stated that Alexei Navalny's brother Oleg was also accused of defrauding the Kirov region of 16 million rubles. He was never accused of involvement in the KirovLes case.
