President Vladimir Putin has ordered anti-terrorism forces to tighten security around the country in the wake of a series of deadly bombings in Volgograd, officials said Monday.
Additional security measures, which were not disclosed, will be introduced around the country, and particularly in Volgograd, a spokesman for the National Anti-terrorism Committee said, Interfax reported.
The bombings at a train station on Sunday and on a trolleybus on Monday that left dozens of people dead sent shock waves throughout the city, and raised security fears about the Sochi Winter Olympics, 700 kilometers away.
Putin ordered the anti-terrorism committee to submit daily security updates, the spokesman said.
Following the Volgograd bombings, Putin also met with Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Federal Security Service head Alexander Bortnikov to discuss security issues, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
