Lithuanian Citizen Imprisoned for Espionage in Russia

Yevgeny Mataytis, a man with joint Russian and Lithuanian citizenship accused of espionage, has been sentenced to 13 years at a prison colony by the Kaliningrad Regional Court for treason, the Meduza news agency reported Wednesday.

Mataytis was also deprived of his rank as a reservist in the Russian Army and fined 200,000 rubles.

The information on the man's arrest emerged in May last year, though details were not given due to the secrecy of the case.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) claimed that he collected data on Russian military forces for the Lithuanian special services.

Mataytis pleaded guilty to espionage charges in June last year, according to a statement published on the FSB website, Meduza reported.
