Daughter of Iconic Russian Poet Vladimir Mayakovsky Dies in U.S.

Patricia Thompson

The daughter of Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky has died in the U.S. at the age of 89, director of Moscow's State Museum of Mayakovsky Alexei Lobov said on his Facebook page on Monday.

Yelena Mayakovskaya — also known as Patricia Thompson — died in New York on April 1, according to the museum director. He said that he had spoken with her two weeks ago about a future exhibition and a possible trip to Russia.

She was born in 1926. Mayakovsky met her mother in 1925 during his only visit to the U.S. He only met his daughter on one occasion — in 1928 in Nice, France.
