A fire broke out in a warehouse in the historic ZiL industrial zone in southeast Moscow on Wednesday morning, prompting the evacuation of 50 people, the TASS news agency reported.
The fire spread over an area of almost 2,000 square meters before it was extinguished, TASS cited Emergency Situations Ministry spokespeople as saying. Fifty people were evacuated from the warehouse, and another four were rescued from the flames, though no one was injured, the report said.
Three helicopters and 30 firefighting units were dispatched to extinguish the fire. According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The ZiL factory, Russia's oldest car plant, once made armored cars for Soviet leaders. City Hall plans to develop the site around the plant into a multifunctional zone.
