A 20-year-old music student in the city of Yekaterinburg has confessed to killing his girlfriend on the eve of Russian men's day because she was texting another man, investigators said Friday.
The 19-year-old woman, who reportedly studied saxophone at the Tchaikovsky Musical Institute, was spending time with the young man in his dorm room when they began to argue about her correspondence with another student, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.
The young man hit the woman in the head with a baseball bat, killing her. In an effort to cover up the crime, he put the clothes they were wearing into a plastic bag and threw them in a dumpster outside the building, investigators said, citing the young man's confession.
The man then stabbed the woman's neck several times to hide the true cause of death and dragged her body down to the second floor, where she lived, the statement said. He left her body, naked, next to a trash chute, where it was discovered by fellow students the next morning, on Russia's Defender of the Fatherland holiday.
The perpetrator, identified by the first name Vladislav in a local news report by E1.ru, has been detained. He was reportedly struggling in his studies, while his girlfriend, Yana, was a model student. The young man faces up to 15 years in prison, the Investigative Committee said in its statement.
