286 years ago today, on Sept. 19, 1967, Zinaida Serebriakova, one of the first renowned female Russian painters, passed away in France.

Serebriakova's oeuvre is frequently compared to the work of Impressionists due to the her depiction of scenes from ordinary life and her use of light.
