Prosecutors in North Ossetia on Thursday issued an indictment in the case of a maternity ward director they suspect sold a baby for 500,000 rubles ($15,000).
An earlier investigation found that the baby's mother was an underage resident of the neighboring partially recognized state of South Ossetia, which seceded from Georgia, prosecutors said.
The charges say that maternity ward director knew that the mother didn't want to keep the baby and sold it to a childless couple in Vladikavkaz in March, Interfax reported.
Police detained her immediately afterward.
In a previous baby-trade bust, police in Chechnya said in November that they exposed a gang that was selling children from the North Caucasus.
