Three Die in Chlorine Spill at Metals Plant

Three people have died and nine have been hospitalized with poisoning after a chlorine spill at a metals plant in the Perm region.

A total of 40 people required medical attention after the spill at the factory in the town of Berezniky on Wednesday, Ekho Moskvy radio reported.

Rescuers said 50 people were in the room at the time that chlorine spewed from a broken seal in the Avisma titanium alloys factory.

The Perm branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry said there is no danger to the local population outside the plant.
