Lovemaking Livestock Startle 5th-Floor Tenants

The bull, pictured here, reluctantly trudged downstairs after emergency workers lassoed the object of his affections.

Emergency Situations Ministry officials are used to putting out fires and rescuing stranded citizens, but calming down a bull making love on the fifth floor of an apartment building is quite another matter.

That was exactly the task Siberian rescue workers faced recently, when concerned residents of a five-story building called the emergency services to alert them to terrifying sounds coming from a pair of cattle behaving indecently on the stairwell.

The incident occurred in the Irkutsk region village of Chuna in late July, but was only reported on the local administration's website Tuesday.

"The residents had tried to interrupt the bull's courtship, but the bull himself was clearly determined. There was nothing to do, so they called the Emergency Situations Ministry," local officials wrote.

Armed with a stiff rope, emergency workers took the matter in hand. And when the object of the bull's affections let her guard down, emergency workers lassoed her by the horns.

"After this, there was nothing left for her to do but to traipse downstairs to give evidence. The bull reluctantly trudged after her," officials said.

This is not the first time that emergency workers have been summoned to the village to rescue adventurous cattle.

In spring, another horned Chuna resident got stuck in a local drainage ditch, according to local officials. Again, the Emergency Situations Ministry was up to the task, using a motorized crane to retrieve the animal and return her to her grateful owners.
