Lada Automatics Coming

AvtoVAZ will start serial production of an automatic version of the Lada Granta in August, Interfax reported Monday. Japan's JATCO, which will supply the automatic gear boxes, said AvtoVAZ hoped to produce 80,000 Granta automatics per year.

AvtoVAZ said in its in-house journal that JATCO might produce gear boxes in Russia if sales go well.

AvtoVAZ produced its first test models of a Granta with a four-speed automatic gearbox in March, and 10,000 of them could come off the production line this year. This will be the company's first car with automatic transmission.
