A Krasnodar court has sentenced two Moscow teachers to prison terms for negligence that resulted in six students and a teacher drowning in the Sea of Azov in July 2010, Interfax reported.
The Yeisk City Court gave Irina Ryabova four years and Alexei Bagryantsev 2 1/2 years.
While swimming, the six children, aged 8 to 16, were swept up in the current and drowned. Physical education teacher Vitaly Morozov drowned trying to save them.
An investigation found that three of the seven adults accompanying the group of 63 children who attended the Azov camp were drunk when the incident happened, Interfax said. Parents of the children are planning to appeal the court's decision because they consider it too light, the report said.
