Moscow Metro Buys Land

An additional 1.5 billion rubles ($53.6 million) has been allotted to the budget of the Moscow metro for the purchase of 48 lots in the city this year, RIA-Novosti reported.

The land will be used to accommodate the system's expansion. That sum is part of a total 2.7 billion ruble supplement to its budget that the Moscow City Duma approved last week, said Vera Chistova, head of the city finance department. The remainder of the money will go for the installation of automatic ticket vending machines and to upgrade ventilation in some tunnels.
