Shmatko Eyes OPEC

The Kuwaiti and Russian energy ministers will aim to improve Russia’s cooperation with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, Kuwait’s Sheikh Ahmad al-Abdullah al-Sabah said Tuesday.

He said after a meeting with Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko that he “hopes cooperation between Russia and OPEC will be better than in the past.”

Shmatko said he hoped for further talks with OPEC after previous initiatives “didn’t find a positive reaction.”

Al-Sabah also sought an accord on the use of nuclear power with Russia “in the near future,” he said at the meeting.
