Zhirinovsky to Council

STRASBOURG, France () -- Ultranationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky will attend a debate at the Council of Europe next week on Russia's assault on breakaway Chechnya, the council said.

The 33-nation council froze consideration of Russia's application to join earlier this month because of Moscow's campaign in Chechnya.

Zhirinovsky join a delegation of Russian parliamentarians invited as guests by the council's parliamentary assembly in Strasbourg despite the freeze.

Zhirinovsky said in a recent interview that Russia should have flattened the Chechen capital and left "a huge crater."
