The Real Van Gogh

ST. PETERSBURG () -- St. Petersburg's Hermitage art museum said Friday it would not exhibit a Van Gogh from its collection unless newspapers stopped printing reports that the painting was a fake.

Museum director Mikhail Piotrovsky said a U.S. confidence trickster had told British auction houses earlier this year he owned "White House at Night," painted by Dutch impressionist Vincent Van Gogh late last century.

But the man disappeared when the Hermitage said the original was in its own collection and accused him of peddling a fake.
