Rugger Barnes Sidelined

Reserve fly-half Stuart Barnes was ruled out of the England squad for Saturday's Five Nations decider against Wales after damaging a groin muscle.

Kept out of the side by Rob Andrew, Barnes had been due for his 28th spell on the substitutes' bench, but the injury, sustained Monday, will narrow England's replacement options.

Prop Nick Popplewell, who played for the British Lions against New Zealand last year, has ruled himself out of Ireland's tour to Australia in May and June.

"I've been playing more or less continuous rugby for three years without a break," Popplewell said Monday. "This season I have had continual hamstring trouble and I just feel that I need a rest from the game."
