JOHANNESBURG () -- Disgraced South African rugby union prop Johan le Roux was quoted as saying he would feel better about his 18-month suspension if he had bitten All Black captain Sean Fitzpatrick's ear right off.
"For an 18-month suspension I feel I probably should have torn it off," Le Roux said Wednesday in an interview with You magazine. "Then at least I could have said: 'Look, I've returned to South Africa with a guy's ear.'"
The South African tour management sent Le Roux home from New Zealand after television replays showed him biting Fitzpatrick's ear during the second test. A disciplinary tribunal added the suspension.
