Plane Wheel Collapses

SYDNEY () -- An Ansett Australia Airlines jetliner bound for Japan carrying 272 people skidded to a stop at Sydney International Airport Wednesday after the plane's nose wheel collapsed during an emergency landing.

No injuries were reported.

Officials said everyone aboard the Boeing 747-300 were evacuated. Most were Japanese tourists along with 21 Australian crew members. Ambulance officers said some passengers were treated for shock.

The plane, bound for Kansai, turned back after one of its four engines failed and, on landing, slid 800 meters along the runway after the collapse of the nose wheel.
