Peacekeeper Killed

KIGALI, Rwanda -- The UN mission in Rwanda suspended all operations after a senior officer with its force was killed by a mortar blast on Tuesday. The development could prolong the agony of thousands of civilians from both the majority Hutu and minority Tutsi tribes trapped in each other's strongholds under fear of attack. Fighting between rebels and government troops for control of the capital forced a halt to the process after evacuations on Friday and Saturday but the UN had hoped its convoys would start ferrying civilians as early as Tuesday.
