On Their Last Legs?

Only 13 girls turned up for a top British beauty contest despite the winner having the chance to go on and compete for the $250,000 Miss Universe first prize.


British tabloids suggested the poor turnout at the first stage of the Miss British Isles competition in London on Sunday showed that beauty contests were becoming a thing of the past.


The Daily Express said the organizers hoped for around 500 girls, but judges almost outnumbered contestants.


Tha Daily Mail said: "Even the feminists canceled their protest outside."
