No Ticket for Martinez
Martinez, who had planned to take a day off from the Brighton International tournament Friday to fly to the wedding and back, was upset Thursday 6-1, 6-3 by Latvia's Larisa Neiland.
Tournament officials had agreed to split the $7,500 cost of a private jet to ensure that Martinez made the round-trip to Zurich in time to play in Saturday's semifinals. After the defeat, the flight was hastily scrapped, and Martinez booked a one-way seat instead.
"Not everybody is perfect," Martinez said, denying the trip had anything to do with her loss.
