Moslems Seize College

KAZAN, Central Russia -- Moslem students in this city on the Volga River have seized a building that in pre-Soviet times belonged to an Islamic college, Itar-Tass reported Wednesday.

Before the 1917 Revolution, the Mohamaddia Madrasah educated some of the most prominent scholars of Tatarstan, a predominantly Moslem region of Russia, religious leader Ishak-Haji Lutfulla told the news agency.

Lutfulla, who led the students' action, said they have been camped out in the building for three days in Kazan, Tatarstan's capital, having despaired of making former tenants leave the building.
