Several central stations on the Moscow metro's Orange Line will be closed Saturday to allow maintenance work to be carried out on the track, the metro said in a statement.
The Sukharevskaya, Turgenevskaya, Kitai-Gorod and Tretyakovskaya stations will be shut all day Saturday and will reopen Sunday at 5:30 a.m., the metro said. The Kitai-Gorod station on the Purple Line and the Tretyakovskaya station on the Yellow Line will continue to operate as normal.
To improve access to the Sukharevskaya metro station, which is only serviced by one underground line, there will be an increase in trolleybuses running on the No. 9 and “B” routes, the metro said in its statement.
Upward of 1,000 maintenance staff will be working on Saturday to replace tracks and rails, and weld joints to decrease noise and vibration on the Orange Line, the statement said.
The metro's management has sought to improve its infrastructure this year following a train derailment last July that resulted in the deaths of more than 20 people.
In all, 100 kilometers of track will be replaced this year, the metro said earlier this month.
