Minimum Wage Hike

MOSCOW ( -- The Federation Council on Wednesday approved a bill to raise Russia's monthly minimum wage to 63,250 rubles ($14) from the current 55,000 rubles by Jan. 1, Interfax reported.


The bill, if signed by President Boris Yeltsin, would raise the wage to 57,750 rubles from Nov. 1, and 60,500 rubles from Dec. 1, the agency said. The State Duma, or lower house of parliament, approved the draft law on Oct. 20.


A total of 118 Federation Council deputies passed the bill unanimously, Interfax said.
