Editor:I should imagine anyone who has traveled on the Moscow metro at rush hour must think, "Good grief, do these Russians have any respect for anyone?" I have at many times thought just this but today made me think there is still some human respect in this country. The platform was full and four minutes were showing on the clock which, along with a distant rumble, meant the train was on its way soon. Suddenly a woman fell onto the tracks landing nastily on her back. I thought "Oh, no!" but within seconds three Russians were risking their lives on the tracks trying to pull her out. After 30 (seemed like a lifetime) seconds, they succeeded in pulling her out with the train zooming in shortly afterwards. Soon everyone was there making sure she was OK and offering any help she needed. James ReidManager, ZwemmerMoscow
A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
