Markets Stay Stable

MOSCOW () -- Russia's securities market was unaffected by the crisis in the breakaway region of Chechnya and prices of most shares were unchanged or slipped under the influence of end-of-the-year booksquaring, dealers said.

"No internal political crisis affects the market to the same extent as the end of the year," said Alexei Dolgikh of Troika Dialog. "Demand for shares is very weak."

"The market is sleeping," said Tserikh Bank dealer Alexei Malyshev. "Even the rise of Chernogorneft shares has slowed down. There are even companies selling them, which we haven't had for a long time."
