Lewis Streaks Ahead

ROME -- World-record holder Carl Lewis, seeking a return to form after a disappointing 1993, made a winning start to the IAAF European Grand Prix season by taking the 100 meters in 10.14 seconds. Lewis, who has won a career total of eight Olympic golds in track and field, showed that at almost 33 he has plenty left in him when he came through Wednesday to defeat 200-meter world champion Frankie Fredericks with a typical late surge.
