Kuchma's Reforms Supported
Deputies voted 231-54 after seven hours of debate to support the "main points" of Kuchma's market reform plan, presented to parliament last week. But they reserved a right to put their own stamp on the reforms through legislation.
Parliamentary leaders also refused to certify a vote by lawmakers to lift a three-year ban on the country's Communist Party, and ordered an investigation into vote-rigging allegations.
Nationalist lawmakers disrupted proceedings for over an hour in protest against Tuesday's disputed vote, and speaker Olexander Moroz said he would not sign legislation annulling the ban on the Communists, as is required to put laws into effect, until the findings of the investigation are made public.
